One of the greatest vocal talents of contemporary jazz, Samara Joy McLendon (born 1999) won two Grammy Awards, one of them as Best New Artist, in 2023, at the age of 23.
Growing up in the Bronx, New York, Samara was surrounded by music in her family from the very beginning. Gospel and soul music played an important role in her upbringing. Recording her self-titled debut album while still in college and releasing it to critical acclaim in 2021, she became even more popular after some of her performances on social media went viral. Her second album “Linger Awhile” was released in 2022.
