Miles Davis (1926–1991) was one of the most influential trumpeters in jazz music and one of the key figures of 20th century music, with a career spanning five decades. Debuting on Charlie Parker’s quintet in the 1940s, his stylistic innovations defined the following eras.
In the 1950s, he was instrumental in developing cool jazz and hard bop, leading a famous sextet who backed Davis on his seminal album “Kind of Blue” (1959). His works in orchestral jazz (with arranger Gil Evans) and his band recordings in the 1960s became extremely popular, his electric period in the 1970s defined jazz fusion. Davis remains one of the most acclaimed and successful figures of jazz history.
