As an in-demand sideman, Henderson played on legendary Blue Note releases including Horace Silver’s “Song for my Father”, Lee Morgan’s “The Sidewinder”, Herbie Hancock’s “The Prisoner” and many more. In the 1960s, he formed the Jazz Communicators with Freddie Hubbard and Louis Hayes. His rich tone and unique approach to rhythm made Henderson a frequent collaborator in the realm of spiritual jazz, such as his 1974 masterpiece “The Elements” which featured, among others, Alice Coltrane and Charlie Haden.
