The Comet Is Coming’s third album finds the London based trio of saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings, keyboardist Dan Leavers and drummer Max Hallett diving even deeper into their unique brand of futuristic, sci-fi informed cosmic grooves. Mixing the textures and urgency of electronic dance music with Hutching’s coiled sax hooks and buoyant Caribbean rhythms, it’s simultaneously dark and joyous, glowering and relentlessly upbeat. Imagine Sun Ra on a sweaty, late-night London dancefloor expounding an updated 21st century Afrofuturist vision and you’re halfway there.
