Cassandra Wilson

Cassandra Wilson (born 1955) is an American jazz vocalist and songwriter. Known for her unmistakable voice and stylistic range, Wilson has continuously pushed the boundaries of jazz, incorporating elements of blues, folk, R&B, and world music into her sound. Despite her crossover success and iconic status in jazz, her style is equally rooted in the avant-garde heritage of Chicago’s AACM. Accordingly, Wilson has collaborated with artists ranging from Steve Coleman and Henry Threadgill to Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, and Ani DiFranco. In the 1990s and 2000s, Wilson released a string of albums on Blue Note, such as "Blue Light 'Til Dawn" and "New Moon Daughter," that further established her as a trailblazing and innovative force in contemporary jazz.
