Explore our collection of albums led by the unmistakable sound of the Hammond B-3 organ - from Jimmy Smith to Big John Patton.

The Hammond B-3 organ, an instrument designed for worship, collided with jazz in the 1930s and it went from there. Jimmy Smith’s innovations on his albums for Blue Note in the 1950s and 60s took the Hammond B-3 organ from being something of a novelty to one of the hippest and most progressive instruments in jazz. At Everything Jazz we have some of Jimmy's most iconic albums from this era as well as other B-3 luminaries like Brother Jack McDuff, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Big John Patton. Learn more about the role of the B-3 in jazz in our story The Hammond B-3 At Blue Note.
